New Arts VCE Study Design

New VCE Study Design - Art Creative Practice Units 1 to 4 (2023 – 2027)

The new 2023 VCAA VCE study designs of Art Creative Practice and Making and Exhibiting will replace VCE Art and VCE Studio Arts 2017 to 2022 as they become obsolete at the end of 2022. From 2023, we will no longer be teaching VCE Studio Arts Units 1 to 4 at MFG.

Students will be enrolled in VCE Art Creative Practice in 2023 which replaces the 2017 - 2022 VCE Art study design. Students at MFG who are undertaking VCE Art Units 1 and 2, 3 and 4 will be assessed using the outcomes from the VCE Art Creative Practice study design.

The following underpins all four units in VCE Art Creative Practice.

VCE Art Creative Practice introduces the role of art in contemporary and historical cultures and societies and values the meaningful and unique impact of artists on the development of arts knowledge, tradition, and experiences, both locally and globally.

Students build an understanding of how artists, through their practice and the artworks they create, communicate personal experiences and ideas, and cultural values, beliefs, and viewpoints.

In this study, students view artworks and investigate the working practices of artists from different cultures and periods of time. Students are challenged to articulate their understanding of the meanings and messages contained within artworks and to examine the effects of artworks upon the viewers or audiences who experience them.

Students learn to pose and solve problems, and work independently and collaboratively, to create and convey meaning through art making.

Through the study of artworks, the practices of artists and their role in society, students develop their individual art practice, and communicate ideas and meaning using a range of materials, techniques, and processes. Both research and investigation inform art making.
