From the Senior School

The Hamilton and Alexandra College Acting Principal - Miss Kristen Waldron

ACTING PRINCIPAL

Welcome back! The 2023 school year has started positively, and we’re excited to have our students back in the classroom.

This week’s newsletter is a streamlined version due to the short week, however we had made sure to include key dates for the first few weeks of term.

First week update:

  • We were delighted to welcome our new Principal, Mr Horne to College on the first day of school. He enjoyed meeting the students and is looking forward to starting in Term 2.

  • It has been a busy start with many students attending overnight camps and day excursions in the first three days. Our Year 12s went on their final school retreat, Year 9s began their Micah Experience in the Grampians, the Year 7s swung through the trees in the Otways and Year 8s are surfing in Port Fairy. You will have some tired (and cold!) children on Friday afternoon.

  • Teaching and Learning remains our priority as we begin the 2023 school year. At the Senior School assembly, I outlined to the students the “non negotiables” for this term. I am seeking your support and partnership to create the best possible learning environment for all students.
  1. Mobile phones will be handed in and placed in a basket at the front of the classroom as students enter. Our preference is phones are locked in lockers. Mobile phones are not permitted to be used before school, recess and lunchtime.
  2. Students will bring all required stationery and equipment to class. A laptop that is charged, record book, pen/paper, workbooks.
  3. Students will arrive to class on time and will work until the teacher has told them to pack up. The cafeteria will not be serving students who arrive before the bell.
  4. Uniform must be worn correctly. Sports uniform is not to be worn in class unless it is a designated sports day or house afternoon.
  5. RESPECT! In how we speak to and treat others, as well as our school property.

I am grateful to be part of this amazing community of staff, students and parents and I look forward to working together to make this school year one to remember. We have much to look forward to.
