Visit from an Author

On Monday 5th December, we were delighted to host a visit from children's book author Gavin Bransgrove. Gavin spoke at our junior assembly to introduce the children to his new book "Crackle's Christmas Surprise', illustrated by M.K. Perring.

Semester 2 Assessment

Teachers assess student achievement in a variety of ways and this is an ongoing process throughout the school year. In our previous newsletter I wrote about PAT testing. For this edition, I would like to present Essential Assessment.

Essential Assessment is another online assessment that students complete in both Mathematics and Reading. This testing can be also completed in paper format. The assessment is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards and is utilised as both a formative and summative assessment tool. At Rangeview, Foundation utilises Essential Assessment in Term 2 and 4. In Levels 1-6, students take part in Essential Assessment in Term 1 as a pre test and diagnostic tool, Term 2 to monitor progress and determine individual student learning needs and Term 4 to determine learning growth.

Essential Assessment is just one of many forms of assessment our teachers use to determine student learning and growth that will be shown in the upcoming student reports.

If you would like more information about Essential Assessment go to https://www.essentialassessment.com.au/

Foundation Information Evening

Our Foundation Information evening took place on Thursday 17th November. This year the format was very different. The evening commenced with  a short presentation to future Foundation families about our school and our programs and then families had the opportunity to move about and visit a number of information tables and ask questions.

Thank you to Carol Wilson and the Foundation teachers for such a fabulous and informative evening.

Semester 2 Student Reports and Portfolios

Our teachers have been hard at work writing Semester 2 reports and supporting students with assessment tasks. Student reports are written twice yearly, at the end of Semester 1 and at the end of Semester 2. Student reports record progress and achievement of students against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards.

Student Learning Portfolios allow a shared approach to learning and encourage students to strive towards producing their best work and reflect on their learning progress. The portfolios contain a variety of assessment tasks, designed to meet the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards. Portfolios will be sent home with students on Monday 19th December for families to cherish and keep.

Student reports will be available to parents and carers on the Compass Parent Portal at 3.30pm on Monday 19th December.  If you have any difficulties accessing your parent portal, please contact the school office on 9874 6381.

Leaving Rangeview at the End of the Year

Remember to download your child's reports by 3rd January 2023

It is always sad to see our Level 6 students finish at Rangeview at the end of the year. We also say goodbye to other students in other levels and we wish them well at their future schools.

If your child is exiting at the end of the year, please ensure you have downloaded all student reports from Compass by Wednesday 3rd January 2023. After this date, there will be no access to the Compass platform.

Reflecting on our Year

As I look back at our 2022 year, I am thankful for so much, particularly having our students back at school, onsite for an entire, uninterrupted year. Student learning takes place in so many ways and we have been proud to offer so many opportunities for our students to thrive, in both academic areas and wellbeing. Every student learns differently, and I hope your child reflects on 2022 year with some special memories that may include classroom learning, specialist classes, sports, incursions, excursions, lunch time clubs, special whole school days and celebrations.

To our students that are leaving Rangeview, I wish you well in your new adventures and encourage you to take every opportunity offered.

To our school community, would like to wish you all a fabulous holiday break, enjoy family time and we will see you all in the new year ready to learn and thrive.
