Lifestyle & PASS get competitive

Term 4 in Lifestyle and Year 9 PASS has seen our students busy preparing for and running their HUB or CLASS Sporting competitions. As part of this project students are assigned roles such as CEO’S, Officials, Coaches, Publicity, First Aid and Equipment Offers, Judiciary and Prizes and Awards to organise their structured sport competitions. In Year 8 Lifestyle, students have been running a HUB Netball competition and in Year 9 PASS students have opted to run an Oztag competition. Students have been developing and refining their collaborative, problem solving and decision making skills to improve and execute the successfully running of their competitions.

Our S.P.O.R.T Squad attended their first team building session to Tree Tops Adventure, Newcastle. Students participated in team building activities to develop their leadership and teamwork skills. Lots of students were taken out of their comfort zones on the high ropes course but through encouragement and support of their peers all students conquered the course. Our team building days will play an important role in our S.P.O.R.T initiative and we look forward to more of these sessions in 2023.

During Term 4 we have connected with the wider community for specialist coaching sessions for some of our S.P.O.R.T Squads. Our Netball Squads have participated in a four week program with NSW Netball where they have focused on further developing their skill levels, ball control and body positioning in Netball drills and small sided games.  We have also welcomed Flanaghan’s as a sponsor for our Girls Netball Team. Our new uniform looks amazing and will have our girls looking very professional on the court in 2023.

Our Individual S.P.O.R.T squad, which is dedicated to our Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming students were privileged to a visit and mentoring session from our sponsor, Karen Barrett. Karen spoke to the students giving expert advice around how using focus and goal setting along with training and fueling your body right can improve performance.

Touch Football Squads participated in a training session with Leanne from Fit4kids. Leanne provided students with a fun session focusing on ball and player movement and decision making skills in a series of drills and small sided games.

Our school coaches thank those specialist coaches who have come in and worked with our students. We look forward to forming stronger connections with the wider community in 2023.
