Hub Happenings
Year 7 Gala Day
On Friday the 4th of November, year 7 students participated in the Year 7 Gala Day at Maitland Park. Students competed in Touch Football, Soccer, Netball, and Softball against other schools in the area. All teams performed their best, with the boy's touch team winning their competition, girl's touch making the final, and the boys making the semi-finals in Soccer. It was an amazing day with students showing grit and teamwork and building friendships with students from other schools.
Year 7 Sport
This term, we kicked off our whole Year 7 school sports. Students selected from a range of activities including walking, iGym, Dullboys and School Sport. This provides them the opportunity to get out and about each Tuesday Session 2 and to interact with students in different hubs! This has been a great change from the previous integrated sport program with the Lifestyle curriculum. Not only did the students enjoy getting out and about in the community, but all the 7 hub teachers thoroughly enjoyed having fun with the Year 7 students.
TAS skills - building a prototype and Woodwork master classes
This term Year 7 have been focusing on building prototypes for their upcoming hub cup. The students demonstrated authentic critical thinking and creativity when working with paddle pop sticks and hot glue guns. They have managed to construct some awesome pieces. As you can see by the pictures below, they really managed to create some great working prototypes.
For the next three weeks of Term 4, Year 7 have drawn from their prototypes to put them into action. They have started with formal construction of building their wooden ones, where the students are getting hands on experience, where they are using their wood cutting skills by using saws, measuring tool, clamps and different ways to create their actual build. As you can see from the pictures below, they are all concentrating hard using the correct building equipment.
Tree Tops Adventure Park
On Monday 21st November, all of Year 7 students were invited to attend a wellbeing excursion to the tree tops adventure park. We were able to take 2 bus loads of students to the venue. Despite the crazy winds, our students were able to challenge themselves by taking on some pretty intimidating obstacles, it was not without saying that some students needed some words of encouragement to face their fears. What an adventure was had! But what was more endearing was the fact that we had 100% of the attendee’s in full school uniform and they represented Kurri Kurri High School outstandingly. After a great year, this has been well deserved.
