STEM

Students studying Marine Studies and Stage 6 Science students, attended a rock platform excursion early in Term 4. Even though the day started a bit rainy it turned into a nice, sunny day. Students enjoyed exploring the rock platform and fossicking on the beach. A short walk to Newcastle Beach afterwards for lunch, before returning back to school. It was only then when we were back on the bus, that we finally saw a Humpback Whale off-shore showing off by breaching in the water!

Marine studies students have enjoyed doing fish dissections as part of their Fish Biology topic. Many were able to extract the otoliths from the fish ears. These structures are used to tell the age of fish.

Can you guess what this is?

Every lesson for Marine Studies students are presented with a different picture and asked “What am I?”  These photos cannot be found on the internet.
