New Options and Programs 2022
The School has offered a number of new options and programs this year for our students to experience and enjoy. Students in Year 9 have engaged in a range of interesting extension and enrichment activities through options such as Science Challenge, Musical Theatre and Gardening and Enterprise. Whilst in Year 10, students have elected to study options with real world contexts and skills including Content Creation for Digital Media and Philosophy and Ethics.
Our Year 9 Science Challenge students continue to examine their learning via real world contexts and by connecting with industry partnerships to create fantastic work this semester. One of their most recent projects has been to create a biodegradable bioplastic to replace containers at the School canteen. Science Teacher, David Longman has been impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and methodological approach to the topic. Congratulations to Jack Halstead, Thomas Bowman and Jacob Fleming who submit their biodegradable bioplastic project to the STAWA Science Talent Search on Monday. We look forward to hearing news of their achievements and wish them well for the competition ahead.
New Options and Offerings 2023
As John Wollaston continues to explore ways to engage and extend our students in their learning, we are offering a range of interesting and exciting new options next year for students to pursue their interests and be exposed to a range of learning and curriculum opportunities.
In 2023, our Year 9s can select a new option for students who would like to pursue their creative interests in writing. The Emerging Writers Master Class will run as an option next year for students wanting to explore and develop their creative and imaginative thinking and writing skills. There will be opportunities to compose and share their writing projects with likeminded students in a supportive and fun learning environment. Students who select this option will also have the opportunity to enter competitions to see their writing in print and to validate their writing process and progress.
In addition, students in Years 10, 11 and 12 next year will be able to enrol in the School Production: Endorsed Program. School Production is an Authority-developed Endorsed Program that enables a student to be recognised for the significant learning gained through involvement in a school production. The School Production: Endorsed Program has been developed to provide recognition for both performance and production and design aspects of a production. The Progam enables a student to engage with the rehearsal and production process, developing specific skills and knowledge and experience the satisfaction of working with others and the joy of shared success. Completion of this program also provides students with Unit Equivalence towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) unit completion requirement.
Year 12 ATAR Personalised Examination Timetables
As the end of Term 3 approaches, our Year 12s are busy finalising their courses, Certificates and preparing for their Mock examinations and Practical WACE Examinations which are scheduled for the holiday period. Students have already received copies of their Year 12 Mock Examination timetable and Examination Rules which they should check and read carefully. Students will be required to bring their examination slip to each Mock Examination which includes their student number and also provide photo identification to each exam.
In addition, copies of the Year 12s personalised ATAR 2022 Examination timetables for the written examinations are now available from the SCSA portal for students to download via this link SCSA Student Portal Students are required to download, print and sign a copy of their Personalised Timetable and bring a copy of their signed timetable with photo identification to every ATAR exam.
