Brilliant Bentley Bombers

We were through to our fourth consecutive Grand Final and payback was on the cards against our Centralian rivals. After drawing with them earlier in the season, this match was destined to be a genuine test of attrition. In front of our fellow friends, teachers and supporters, the atmosphere was electric – as was this Grand Final match.

We began the first quarter running hot; with Syrai and Shivani proving a handful for our opposition whilst Armani and Sazkoda did a lot of the bullocking work in the centre. Curty attacked the contest fiercely and sent shockwaves through an opponent after a huge hip-and-shoulder. The second quarter was a hard-fought battle with not much happening on the scoreboard. After half-time, fatigue started to set in and Centralian kicked two consecutive goals to none which brought them within 8 points at the final break. We        re-grouped at three-quarter-time, discussing what we needed to do to finish the match with the energy to win the match.

BOOM! The first centre clearance was won by Issy, releasing Armani for a dashing run and resulting in a team-lifting goal. BOOM! Sadie took down a larger opponent with a sensational tackle that changed the tide of the match and reminding our younger brigade that we can win against the odds. BOOM! A huge spoil from Sazkoda before picking up the ball, shrugging two bounces and kicking the sealer to the delight of our band of supporters. Sazkoda was later awarded Best on Ground and a much-deserved medal.

I’m extremely proud of you all for your contributions throughout the year, bonding as a strong team and showcasing incredibly positive culture. Thank you all for being your best and striving for excellence. As for our sensational Captain, Armani Francois, we will miss your on-field leadership but you have left an everlasting legacy on this playing group. Great appreciation goes to our founder, Mr Garry Bentley who came down to show his support for this wonderful team.
