Book Week 2022: Dreaming With Eyes Open

Last week St Xavier’s students celebrated Book Week and the theme “Dreaming With Eyes Open”. A dress up day was held on Monday where children came to school dressed as their favourite bedtime book character. There were some absolutely incredible costumes and it was so wonderful to see everyone dressed up and embracing the spirit of the day.

The Book Week parade was held before lunch and each grade had their turn in the spotlight.

On Tuesday, teachers swapped classes and enjoyed reading their favourite stories to a different group of students.

During the week some classes participated in virtual excursions organised by the State Library of NSW. They were involved in writing sessions, listened to well known Australian authors and illustrators and even learnt to draw some characters from amazing books!

All in all book week was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so much excitement about books and reading! Congratulations to everyone!

Sora

Did you know that St Xavier’s students have access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks via the Armidale Catholic Schools Office Digital Library?

The digital library is accessible via the app called SORA, by Overdrive. Simply access the app store and search for Sora. Alternatively go to https://soraapp.com

The next step will be for your child to log in using their own personal username and password. Students should know their username as it is the first part of their school email address, however if they need reminding please ask them to come and see me in the library. Their password is simply the same password that they use to log in to their chromebooks every day at school.

The fabulous thing about SORA and the digital library is that it can be accessed from home and is available throughout the year, including during school holidays. This means access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks at any time!
