Prayer

A Child’s Prayer for Morning

Now, before I run to play,

Let me not forget to pray

To God who kept me through the night

And woke me with the morning light.

Help me, Lord, to love you more

Than I ever loved before,

In my work and in my play

Be with me throughout the day.

Amen.

Commissioning of Altar Servers for St Joseph’s Parish

On Sunday 21st August, eight students from St Xavier’s - Isaac and Hannah Redfern, Lucas and Benjamin Grosser, Joshua Spinks, Annabelle Kelly, Rupert Frend and Abbey Bayliss, as well as two ex-St Xavier’s students, Katie Spinks and Bianca Bayliss, were commissioned as Altar Servers for St Joseph’s Parish during the Sunday Mass. The Altar Servers were vested by their parents before being officially commissioned and then served Fr Abmar and Fr Samson for the remainder of Mass and all did a terrific job!

A separate commissioning Mass will take place at the Catholic Church in Mullaley or Tambar Springs for St Xavier’s students Jonathon, Katrina and Thomas Martin, due to their close family connection with these churches.

These students have now been placed on the Parish Roster, some beginning their duties as soon after commissioning as the following weekend! We would like to congratulate all students who have made the commitment to undertake this role!

St Vincent de Paul Fundraiser

Recently, Year 3 were visited by Mrs Jacinta Stanley, a volunteer with our local Vinnies branch, as part of their RE unit about Saints. Following her visit, Year 3 were inspired to follow in St Vincent’s footsteps regarding his charitable works. Year 3 then combined with Year 2, who were also learning about the qualities of saints, to brainstorm fundraising ideas and ways we could target Gunnedah locals who are in need. The two classes came up with the idea of hosting a ‘Pyjama Day’ in order to raise money to fund the purchase of blankets and doonas for those sleeping rough each winter, and will be presented to our local Vinnies branch later this term. Please stay tuned for more information regarding ‘Pyjama Day’!
