Creativity

A teacher was fascinated by a child sitting at the back of the class, drawing.

‘What are you drawing?
‘God!’
‘But no one knows what God looks like.’
‘They will in a minute.’

We should be encouraging a sense of creativity. Children are not frightened of being wrong. (Ken Robinson)

In my office I have brilliant paintings created by John XXIII College students. They make excellent reference points when I conduct enrolment interviews and we discuss ways of encouraging creativity amongst our students. Often the student explanation which accompanies the art piece is as impressive as the artwork itself.

The past week has provided plenty of opportunities for our students to express their talents in multiple facets of John XXIII College life. Our Years 3-6 primary students conducted their Interhouse Athletics Carnival last Friday; and they also competed in the IPSHA Athletics Carnival on Thursday; our Secondary Athletics team performed admirably in the A Division ACC Athletics Carnival and the Years 8/9 Drama Production has been a resounding success. Our final rowing regatta is scheduled for this weekend and multiple netball teams will compete in grand finals on Saturday. Our Magis Music challenge has recently concluded, and preparations are well underway for our annual Visual Art exhibition. The depth and breadth of activities provide opportunities for our students to shine.

Next week will be a four-day school week due to the Public Holiday on Thursday as we pay respect to Queen Elizabeth II. Our Year 12 students will be busy with their final week of classes and there will be other events outside the classroom which complement the in-school curriculum offerings. I am sure it will be an excellent end of term for all students, staff and families.
