Wonderful student achievements are being celebrated across the school.

Visual Arts Exhibition

Our Visual Arts Exhibition opened with great enthusiasm on Wednesday 24 August. We have outstanding student work on display from a range of year groups. The talent showcased at this event is of the highest levels, and I congratulate our students on their wonderful achievements. The opening night was well attended, and I thank Leroy D’Souza (class of 2021) for his presentation. The magnificent works of art featured in this exhibition are the result of deep thought, reflection and vision by our talented and hardworking students. Students and teachers have worked in partnership to journey through creative processes to produce outstanding art.

These works hold significant meaning – and comprise more than major works for the HSC, or work completed for assessments – they are historical and emotional artefacts that capture precious moments in our students’ lives, and they will provide a reference point for our students and their families to reminisce, smile, dream and inspire. When these works are eventually displayed on the walls or shelves of the homes of parents, grandparents or in other locations – they will evoke discussion, happiness and reflection – this is the power of the artworks produced by our students.

I thank our talented, committed, and hardworking Creative and Performing Arts faculty. We have the very best teachers working alongside our students. I encourage all students to continue striving for your personal best, maintain a growth mindset and keep pushing yourself to greater heights. Continue painting, drawing, sculpting, designing, and showcasing your artistic talents in every way - to change the world.

National Aerobics Competition 20-22 August

Our aerobics teams qualified for the national competition on the Gold Coast. I congratulate all students for their dedication, commitment, and work ethic. Our students had a fantastic time and I thank our teachers Mrs Muller and Mr Currie for their management of this event.

Killara Academy

We have exciting events coming up in Killara Academy. Our students will be participating in a tour of The University of New South Wales this weekend, and then cooking for the homeless during the school vacation. I congratulate all Killara Academy students for their commitment towards this extra-curricular activity.

Year 12 – we are proud of you all

Year 12 students have completed their HSC Trial examinations and are now preparing for their final examinations. External NESA markers have commenced assessing our students’ HSC major works. Over the next 4 weeks at Killara High School, I encourage all Year 12 students to maintain focus on their health and wellbeing. It is important to balance academic commitments with other social and sporting events. I encourage all Year 12 students and families to visit the Stay Healthy HSC website. This website contains helpful information about maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the upcoming HSC period.

Lindfield Cricket Celebrates its 100th Year

This week Ant Moran, past student and Lindfield Cricket Junior Convener presented at our Stage 4 assembly to share how the cricket club was formed by WWI veterans who worked with Ku-ring-gai Council on cleared land back in the early 1900s. Many girls and boys at Killara have played cricket at some point in time, and whilst many have continued it would be great to see more kids playing sport. Lindfield have dedicated resources available to answer your questions and place you child in a team for the upcoming season and would be happy to support an all Killara team at each age group if desired.

The Importance of arriving on time

Student attendance is important, and I encourage all families to organise family holidays during the vacation period, and not during the school term. It is vital that students maintain the highest standards in attendance and on-time arrival to school. Arriving on time:

ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
gives students time to greet their friends before class
reduces classroom disruption
