Year 7 Science Incursion

The Year 7 Science classes were very excited to welcome a number of interesting visitors from Wild Action last week as part of their study of Classification and Ecosystems.

The students were introduced to a number of Australian animals and were able to get up close and pat or hold a frog, several lizards, a couple of snakes, a barn owl, mountain pygmy and ring tail possums and even a crocodile.

Thank you to our presenters Tilly and Jackson for our Science Week ‘surprise’: we look forward to seeing you again.

VCE Economics and Accounting Excursion

It was a chilly morning on the day of the Economics and Accounting excursion.  Upon arriving at our meeting place at the Time Out Café in Fed Square, my group consisting of Sarah and Catherine, were given a sheet littered with questions about various landmarks in Melbourne. Little did I  know, Flinders Street Station has an abandoned ballroom that once held dance classes, ballroom competitions and concerts.  Apparently, a ghost lingered in the corridors of the station.   Shortly after all the groups were released and given two and a half hours to complete an Amazing Race competition.  My adrenaline started to rush because I knew we were going to win! After an hour and a half, my group was doing well having found more than half of the landmarks. We ventured to the depths of the Aquarium, touched the famous water wall of the National Gallery of Victoria, and listened to the tunes of the clock in the heart of Melbourne.

My group and I treated ourselves to GYG towards the end of the race and it was great until we had to hurry to meet up with the rest for the tour. Our tour guide, Courtney, was very informative about the history and culture that still resides in the fairly 'new' city of Melbourne. We dove deep into the cultural facts of our traditional custodians of our country and the achievements they have made on our country. We also learnt detailed facts about different landmarks, like The neo-Gothic tower that was previously a bank until its bankruptcy. It is one of the finest buildings in Melbourne, standing alongside 101 Collins St, Collins Tower, The Rialto and The Eureka Tower.

Nearing the end of our Amazing Race of Melbourne City, I felt honored to have experienced such a tour that not only gave me knowledge about our still flourishing city but its backbone and deep history of it. All in all, I enjoyed the excursion and would encourage others to set out on a journey into Melbourne City! P.S we won the race :)

SIS Athletics Carnival

After 2 years … the excitement was palpable for SIS Athletics Carnival held at Lakeside Drive, Albert Park.

On the day, Monday 22 August, 74 students represented NAZ in track and field events against six other schools. We were blessed with great weather, as we were with the House Athletics a few weeks earlier.

There were some fantastic individual achievements throughout the day. The early morning training sessions were worth it. Overall, Nazareth place 6th out of 7 schools.

Thanks to all the staff who attended to make sure students were on time for their events.
