Grade F/1

This week the F/1 students have finally added the finishing touches to their 'Young Archies' Portraits by outlining their paintings. They have also been revising their knowledge of lines, by completing a planned patterned line design, which they will be using for their scratch foam prints. Next week, students will be learning how to transfer and print them using washable markers.

Grade 2/3

The Grade 2/3's have been actively immersed in learning all about clay. Students have learnt how to create basic forms commonly used for hand-building, which include: spheres, coils and slabs. So far this term, students have practised making pinch pots and transforming them into a range of different original creatures. Then they created an ornament using their knowledge of slabs and textures. This week, students have been experimenting with air-drying clay to practise and revise all the techniques that they have learnt during this unit to make an animal. Throughout the lesson, the Grade 2/3's were encouraged to compare the properties of both clays and discuss which material they preferred and explain the reasons why.

Grade 4-6

Throughout the last few weeks, the Grade 4-6's have been learning about Picasso. Students have been examining his use of cubism and primitivism in his artwork. They have also discussed how culture and major events inspire the themes and concepts represented within an artist's artwork. This week, students explored how African Art influenced Picasso's artwork to create a collage of an African Mask. The Grade 6's have also worked on acetate self-portraits, in preparation for their graduation celebration later on in the year.
