Congratulations to all boys who participated in the Junior School House Athletics Carnival on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a very successful carnival. Thank you to Mr Thompson who organised the event, Mrs Spencer, who assisted in the preparation and the staff and parents who helped and supported their boys.

Parents, your fantastic support of all we do in Junior School is very much appreciated.

Daffodil Day

I am sure everyone has a connection with someone who has cancer. The Daffodil is the international symbol for hope and all money raised today through the selling of daffodils, goes towards cancer research. This year, Miss Alana Brennan and Mrs Sara Pounder have been selling daffodils to the staff and many Junior School families. We are amazed at the response, with 250 bunches sold, raising $2,500 for the Cancer Council.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival

This week, the last of our groups, the Year 4 Choir, Year 5/6 Choir, Junior Vocal Ensemble and Junior Concert Band all performed. The boys were simply awesome, and were a credit to themselves, the College and their families. Thank you to all the Performing Arts staff, and in particular Mrs Ann Clarke and Mrs Paula Nicoletto for the time and effort they have put in to preparing the boys for their respective performances for the Catholic Arts Festival.

Book Week Parade

Book Week Parade is always a highlight in the Junior School and this morning was no exception. There were so many fun and creative costumes from students and from staff! The BIG boys who were off at rehearsal had their own parade at assembly in the afternoon. Thank you, parents for supporting your sons’ with their great costumes.

Wellness Week

Next week is Wellness Week. On Monday we are asking the boys to contribute items for Men’s Mental health. We will be collecting toiletries to donate. A basket will be placed in each classroom.

To contribute to everyone’s wellbeing we will have a week of no homework, optional training and no Clubs. Boys who are preparing for the Inter-School Athletics Carnival will no doubt take up the optional training offer. Below is a general plan for the week.

Wheelchairs For Kids

Our Year 4 boys will be taking part in a Christian Service excursion on Thursday, 1 September. They will be visiting Brother Ollie’s Wheelchairs for Kids workshop in Wangara. This is always a valuable day for our boys and they will follow this up with a cake stall next term.

Father’s Day Breakfast

All Junior School dads and grandads are invited to the Father's Day Breakfast on Friday, 2 September commencing at 7:30am. We have asked Year 5 parents to donate prizes for the raffle. Please bring them to the Junior School reception by Tuesday, 30 August. I look forward to seeing dads and sons in their footy colours enjoying the morning.

Eyes on TC Podcast - TC Icons

This term in podcasting club, our focus is ‘TC Icons’. The boys are interviewing various members of Trinity College’s staff about their experience in various fields. The boys have been spending time researching their subjects, developing questions, then conducting the interview. This is a great way for the boys to develop their conversation skills instead of simply asking questions. We have quite a few guests coming up over the coming weeks.

Recently the boys interviewed the first of their TC Icons, Principal Mr Darren O'Neill and they certainly put the hard questions to him. Take a listen below.

Year 4s Italian Cooking

In Term 2 the Year 4s watched the movie Luca in Italian as the starting point for following the Giro d’Italia cycle race. This was a cross curricular unit of work where they looked at Italian geography. To follow on from the viewing of Luca they have been looking at food and the Italian diet from the start of this Term.

On Monday all three of the classes made Pesto Genovese with Signora Knapman and Signora Langton. Pesto Genovese was chosen as this is the pasta eaten in the film Luca.

Food is a big part of Italian culture and language learning is as much about culture as the language itself. At the end of the lesson the boys were able to eat their freshly made pesto with pasta. Many of the boys had never tried or made it before. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn how easy it is to make fresh and healthy food, and hopefully they will make it at home again with their families.

Prefects Corner

It has been a pretty intense week with Catholic Performing Arts, Book Week and the House Sports Carnival. We’re sure the boys are going to enjoy their rest on the weekend.

The Junior Vocal Ensemble, Year 5/6 Choir, and Year 4 Choir was busy on Tuesday this week. They went to the Vasto Club with two other schools. They sung amazingly and they got great scores too.

On Thursday, the boys had their sport carnival in their factions Chanel (Yellow) Xavier (Light blue) Queens (Red) and Campion (Dark Blue). All the boys had great sportsmanship but, in the end, Queens won, Campion 2nd, Chanel 3rd and Xavier 4th. The boys on Thursday were really showing the TC Spirit.

On Friday, the boys had their Book Week parade with the help of CBCA. We’re sure the boys had lots of fun with the parade with all their wacky and silly costumes. Like every year, from each class, there is a winner with the best costume and I’m sure that the boys were quite competitive.

Jacob and I do hope the weather is nice next week like this week.
