Chess Success

Last Friday 10 students from our school played in the Primary School Chess Tournament.  There were 46 students entered from schools across the district.  We each played seven rounds of Chess.  We were divided into two teams.  Team A made it through to the State Finals as they were the winning team for the day. The College students all played very well and each received a medal as well as one for our school. It was a fun day.  It took a lot of concentration but we all enjoyed it.   I won the individual medal.  Thanks to Ms Bolton for taking us and supporting us during the day.  Also, thanks to Miss Brabham for co-ordinating Chess Club this term.  Ms Bolton said she was impressed by the level of sportsmanship shown by all of our students even when they weren’t winning their game.  The team consisted of Tobe Adamson, Stirling Cuming, Nick Hoskyns, Luc Murphy, Charlie Beggs, Jake Tonissen, Olivia Mann, Sophie Paton and Archer Lawrance.

Catch the Buzz

Myrniong hosted a successful “Catch the Buzz” day on Tuesday with students taking part in a range of engaging activities.  I would like to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to the Myrniong Staff who hosted these stimulating sessions for the Prep to Year Four students in mixed age groups.  They were joined by visiting students from Macarthur and St John’s Primary School in Portland.  Thank you also to Mrs Holcombe from the Senior Campus and Michelle from the kitchen for providing and hosting both morning tea and lunch on the Refectory lawn.  We are also thankful for the assistance of our maintenance team.  It was nice to have some parents join us for either lunch or to witness the fun unfolding.

Students entered an engineers’ convention in the Prep room.   Great collaborative design was underway as children built and enhanced air powered cars.

Year One was transformed into a Day Spa with calming sensory experiences provided by Mrs Milich, where the children were reflective and focused.

Miss Ross’ Poetry with Pizzazz turned the Year Two room into a dramatic hub, where children were able to watch their performances using instant iPad playback.

In the Year Three room, children were busily coding computer turtles to produce online art designs with Mrs Mackarness.

Miss Brabham changed her room into a design space where children were creatively using craft materials to protect eggs when they were crash tested!  The children obviously saw no limits to the resources provided and the majority of eggs survived their crash tests.

Mrs Nettleton, Mrs Drummond and Mrs Robertson took their Mysterious Messy Science class outside on such a lovely day.  Perfect for water and flying eggs!

Prep Assembly

What an amazing performance by our Prep students!  Most impressive was their level of voice projection.  They could be heard from the back of the room without a microphone.

After starting with a dance to the Play School theme song and the handing out of balloons to their guests, the Prep students took to the stage literally.  They each stood on the makeshift pier ready to jump into the boat as they told their part of the story.  Finn, the cow, started off, followed by Will the donkey, Oscar the pig, Amelie the sheep and Freddie, the dog. After each one hopped in the boat, we heard the line “Who sank the boat?”  Of course none of those animals had.  The boat was still afloat.  They were all aboard the boat when the little mouse, Harley jumped in, and ‘oh no!’ the boat sank and all of the animals ended up in the water.  Now you know who sank the boat.  A beautiful retelling of a Pamela Allen classic.  You can revisit the story in the foyer of the Handbury Centre complete with boat and stained glass windows.
