GREAT!

Victorian Bike Ride

Craig Van Der Valk

Team BSC - GVBR

Team BSC had a fabulous time on the Great Victorian Bike ride.  This is the first year that a team from BSC has participated, and all the members can be rightly proud of their enthusiasm for the event as well as their exceptional teamwork and commitment demonstrated along the way.

I really enjoyed the ride and the fabulous scenery that I photographed along the way. I did find the ride challenging because I was not feeling very well, but I knew I could do it. I feel great after having completed the GVBR and I would definitely participate again. It was a pretty cool experience.

My favourite part of the GVBR came after my biggest challenge!  Riding up one of the really long hills was so hard. It felt like hast hill was going to last forever! After getting to the top it was fantastic to coast at speed down the other side!   Members of the ride were very supportive of each other - always checking that everyone was okay.  It was a great experience.

The 80’s Dance Night is one of my favourite memories of the GVBR. We had so much fun socialising and dancing – and it was a great way to stretch our legs after a day of riding!  My biggest challenge was that long hill – it was difficult! Altogether though, the GVBR was a fun event that anyone could take part in.  Even with minimal training…and there is always the backup of the SAG bus to get you to the destination if all else fails! The GVR is an event where everyone is welcomed and included, everyone is friendly and chatty, and everyone fits in.  It was a great community.

A highlight for me was the fabulous views you can see as you ride – I especially liked the scenery around the Glenrowan Ranges.  It was great that as we rode along, we could socialise with each other.  The day that we covered 100km while enduring 33degree heat was a real challenge. I nearly passed out at the end of that day but making it to the next stop was so rewarding!  My body feels great after the ride too.   Anybody can take part in the GVBR and complet it. If you have the will to do it and combine that with the support and encouragement of others, you will have a fabulous time along with about 2000 other participants!

My highlight was finishing the 100km leg of the trip.  It was hard work and a real test of my stamina!  The food provided was great and overall the GVBR had a wonderful friendly atmosphere.
