November 19 – 23 was BSC’s week dedicated to celebrating our Festival Of Media Art and Design!

A highlight of the week was on Thursday November 22, when the G-Block Flexispace was transformed into a gallery to display the colourful and varied inclusions in the BSC Art and Design Exhibition.

The evening showcased many of the projects students have been busy creating throughout 2018. All year levels were on display across disciplines of Art, Visual Communication and Design, Digital Design, as well as Product Design in Wood and Textiles.

Students, parents, siblings, relatives, future students, teachers, principals and toddlers; navigated their way through the exhibit, observing and discussing the pieces on display, with smiles and admiration on their faces.

The Parent’s Association provided a wonderful spread of gourmet food and drinks at the bar below, while the concert band performed alongside on the grass. Upstairs VCE students filled the gallery space with contemporary melodies using their personally designed and hand-made instruments, being a living-work-of-art in themselves!

The quality, skill and development of work would not be possible without the knowledge, preparation, skill, guidance, feedback, patience, and time that our Art and Design teachers have invested in BCS students. So thank you Karen Ferguson, Mitchel Brannon, Bree Morrison, Tim James, Emily Doyle, Cathie Cowcher and Ben Sheppard.

The People’s Choice Award this year was a difficult decision, where multiple artworks received numerous votes. Angus Coverdale’s resin-filled table was a close second, but the people of BSC voted for Zhentao Shen’s Egg-cellent painting! Congratulations to Daniel Gannon as well, who was elected for the RMIT Sculpture Award for his mirror piece titled Danger, Sharps. Both impressive artworks were from Year 11 Studio Art.

Overall, the evening was a wonderful celebration of our school community and student work. What a great way to finish the year!
