The final outdoor program for the year was a hiking trip through Wilsons Promontory. 'The prom' s a favourite destinations for hikers from all over Australia - indeed the world. The rugged landscape, spectacular scenery, sometimes challenging weather patterns  and remote location can be daunting at first, so the prospect of three days of hiking can be quite a challenge to  BSC Bushwhackers.

The whole class first camped at Tidal River on the Wednesday night and then split into two groups to do the southern circuit of the prom. One team travelled  clockwise and  the other anticlockwise over two nights, and then returned to BSC on Saturday afternoon - exhausted and elated!

This trip saw students assume much of the responsibilities for the program having prepared for the trip in a number of ways.  Prior to departure, they worked in small groups to organise and purchase their own food, check equipment lists and consider the aims of the trip and discuss outcomes that they wanted to achieve.

Having spent the year becoming progressively more confident,

responsible, independent, adventurous and curious, the BSC students approached this trip with enthusiasm and maturity.  They are to be congratulated on their outstanding teamwork and  commitment to the program throughout the year, having faced every challenge with determination and positive attitude.

In November,  the Year 9 Bushwhacked class, travelled to Wilson Promontory for a 4 day trip. At first, and I am going to be honest here,  I was very scared of the idea of three days of bushwalking! But once we got started, I realised it wasn't going be that bad at all.

Although I struggled on the last day, I found that I had really enjoyed being around my peers and solving problems. Only now, at the end of the year, do I realise how much my Bushwhacked experiences have helped me. I am very thankful that I chose to be in this class.

The trip to Wilson's Promontory was an amazing experience. It challenged me socially, physically and emotionally. The trip was really great because we (the students) had control over most of what happened. We organised and ran each day in mini-leadership groups. This opportunity really helped many people improve their leadership , teamwork and group coordination skills.

I loved all the beaches we walked to and through, but my favourite was Sealers Cove with the big rock and the river.

I had an amazing time in Bushwhacked this year not only because of the outdoor programs I took part in but the people that were in the class made this year really enjoyable. Mr Haebich was an amazing teacher and none of this could have happened without his knowledge, support and leadership.

On the Wilsons Promontory program I learned a lot more about my personal capabilities. I was nervous about the walk however I made myself stay positive and enthusiastic, and this helped me to understand that my nerves were largely just mindset. Because of this, I had a great time and wasn’t so worried about things, so overall it was a great experience.

Bushwhacked has been such a great class to get involved with this year. I had the opportunity to become friends with new people and learn many new things. I 100% recommend others to give it a go!
