Cranbourne Royal Botanic
Visit to Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens and Selandra Rise
Students in 8S have been working on a unit on sustainability covering Humanities, English and Science. They have been re-designing a house using sustainable principles for interior and exterior features as well as landscaping, learning about energy and persuasive writing techniques.
To investigate further, the class visited the Australian Garden at Cranbourne to learn more about planting techniques and indigenous plants. They also visited the 8 star energy rated Community House at Selandra Rise estate, which recently won the Masterplanned Development award for excellence from the Urban Development Institute. The students were able to see the sustainability principles in practice and hear more about them from Dan from the South East Councils Climate Change Alliance.
