2020 iCAN CHALLENGE – 26th March 2020

Most of us have heard of the Royal Children’s Hospital.  Some of our families have been involved with the hospital in some way or other, if you haven’t you probably know someone that has.

Back in 2014 Langwarrin Primary School joined together with Elisabeth Murdoch College to create a challenge to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.  A 50 km walk! This was the beginning of the iCan Challenge.

We are now preparing for our 4th walk.  In 2020 we have over 50 students, 30 parents and 5 staff participating in the challenge.  Together with Elisabeth Murdoch College, Woodlands PS and Langwarrin Park PS we will be part of the biggest iCan so far.  Over 300 people walking from Melbourne (St Kilda) to Frankston foreshore.

SO…..we need all our families to get behind our walkers and help them achieve the challenge.

Here at Langwarrin PS we are holding two free dress days; where we are asking our families to help provide a donation to assist our walkers on the day at the various aide stations along their 50km walk.

Friday 21st February - donations of drinks - gatorade, water or powerade

Friday 13th March - donations of snacks - lolly snakes, jelly babies, muesli bars, mini sultana boxes

For our prep families and other new families to the school.

Throughout the year we hold various free dress days for a range of reasons; but most often it is to raise awareness and funds for a cause that is close to our hearts.

Our free dress days mean that the children can wear their own choice of clothes to school for the day, that’s right – no school uniform on this day.  Students are reminded that they must still wear enclosed shoes and bring their hat for outside play.  Shoulders should be covered (no spaghetti type straps).

SchoolPix

Due to the bad weather we experienced on photo day, the sibling photos that were not taken have rescheduled to Friday 28th February.  Parents of Grade 6M, and Junior School Council photos will also be taken again on this day.

Sentral Absences

It is a DET requirement that all student absences are explained by a parent/guardian. This can be done by logging into your Sentral account and replying to any unexplained absence notification you have received from the office. If your child/ren are going to be absent please log the absence before 9 am.

CSEF

The CSEF is an annual payment to the school to be used towards camps, sports and/or excursion expenses.

Applications for 2020 are now open and will close on 26 June (end of Term 2). For concession card holders CSEF eligibility will be subject to the parent/legal guardian's concession card being successfully validated with Centrelink. CSEF application forms can be collected from the school office.

School Run4Fun Colour Explosion

From today, we commence the School Colour Explosion™ Run which is a major fundraiser this term so we do ask for your support. The more money we raise the more we can provide for the students through vital school projects, in particular improving the school grounds.

The School Colour Explosion™ Run will be held on 19/03/2020. We do ask that you bring a spare change of clothes to school, most importantly a plain white shirt as the students will be covered in powder from head to toe. All participants will be given protective eye glasses to wear. The day’s focus is on fun and fitness with the added benefit of raising funds for our school.

COLOUR POWDER: The colour powder used in our event has been sourced direct from India, the home of Holi Powder. It is made of high quality corn starch and permitted food colours. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, skin safe and environmentally friendly. Toxicological Risk Assessment and ingredient listings can be obtained from the School Office upon request and is also on the school website: About Us; Policies and Documents. Students with asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate in the run through of the Holi powder, but we will have a ‘no powder’ lane also.

HOW DOES MY CHILD FUNDRAISE? Students have now received a Sponsorship Form with instructions on how to raise money and order prizes. Students obtain donations in cash using the Sponsorship Form together with online fundraising.
