Our Positive Behaviour Framework

Being Grateful

We are focusing on Gratitude over the next two weeks here at St Joseph’s. We would encourage you to also have conversations with your students about being grateful and what this looks like. How do we show gratitude in all aspects of our lives? How does our Matrix explain gratitude and behaviours that demonstrate this?

This article from mindful.org on ‘How to Practice Gratitude’ has some excellent information and advice for practising gratitude.

SchoolTV - Special Report

Happiness and Gratitude

Happiness is defined as the balance of positive and negative emotions, combined with overall life satisfaction. Happiness and gratitude have been studied in positive psychology for many years and researchers have found that gratitude is always strongly associated with greater happiness. Although everyone has their own definition of happiness, many of us want to feel more positive emotions than negative ones. However, negative emotions are still important. They have a lot to teach us and alert us when things need to change. Practising gratitude helps people feel more of the positive emotions, enable us to relish good experiences, improve our overall health, deal with adversity and build strong relationships.

Respectful Relationships

Guest Speaker Reflection from Ebba and Mia

On Wednesday the 24th of November, we had Simone O’Brien come to St Joseph’s and give the 2022 Year 10s, 11s and 12s a presentation on respectful relationships, her experience with domestic violence and give advice on what to do if you or someone you know needs help.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to Simone again for coming, her presentation was engaging, thought-provoking and it was a huge honour to have her working so closely with us and to have her travel to St Joseph's all the way from Melbourne after so long.

We also wanted to say thank you to all the students and teachers who attended and showed their utmost respect towards Simone. It was amazing to have the current and future leaders of our school sit down and listen so intently and be so immersed in Simone’s story.

Remember that every experience is different. There is no one specific way to experience abuse/violence. If you need to talk to anyone, please get in touch with the Wellbeing team, any of the teachers here at school or anyone from the Consent Groups such as Ebba Whyborn, Mia Jennings, Holly Moyle, a close family member or friend, or an external support or service. Remember that there will always be someone who is willing to listen to you and your story.

Please remember we are here to help! If we can assist in supporting you and/or your student, please contact your student’s Learning Mentor, House Leader or wellbeing@sje.vic.edu.au.
