Joy to the World!

What a joyous time of the year as we prepare to farewell one another for the holidays, celebrate Christmas together (albeit a bit early) and look back on what was a year full of learning, laughter and fun.  I have very much enjoyed preparing for our end of year events because it means I see students doing things they normally wouldn't; such as speaking in front of 400 people, or dancing up a storm in a reindeer outfit, or writing reflections on the challenges and successes they faced this year.  For that matter, I've seen some members of staff do things they usually wouldn't; donning antlers on a headband for days on end, dancing up a storm (there's a theme emerging here!), making movies and playing music loud enough to spill through the Junior School foyer and into the playground.  It all makes for great fun and a welcome release from the rigors of the end of a school year when some days look like a competition to see who is the most tired!  I have, more than once, cast an envious glance through the glass towards a Pre-Primary student enjoying an afternoon nap!

This festive season I encourage you to foster the joy of being together, celebrating Christmas and savouring each precious moment.  Too often we get caught up in the hurly-burly of making sure we have just the right decorations on the tree, or just the right glaze for the ham, or just the right holiday photos when, really, the joy of the season, the 'just right' is with us all the time: our health, faith, family are already with us and just waiting for us to practice our capacity for gratitude.  Have a safe and happy holiday, we look forward to seeing you next year.
