VCAL News

The end of the year came with a bang for our Senior VCAL students. There was time for celebration, time for reflection and, for some, time to complete all their work to the required standard.

Of course, plans had to change along the way to take into account Covid-related restrictions, but the Seniors showed resilience and flexibility to allow their teachers to modify outcomes on the fly. These restrictions had a massive impact on the ability of students to undertake their work placements which impacted those still completing School-Based Apprenticeships and Training and Vocational Education and Training.

Our Seniors have now moved on from their secondary schooling. Many are already working and many have enrolled for further training in the coming year. We miss them and wish them well.

The Intermediate class has also suffered from restrictions to their work placements which has meant that some outcomes will have to be completed in the coming year. Training organisations will have informed these students of their requirements.

Students have been working with Mr Glenn Robertson from Head Start, a Department initiative to assist students in finding apprenticeships and traineeships. Glenn has been helping with resume writing and cover letters. He will be returning in a few weeks to help students find work placements for 2022.

These activities, along with some focussed work on planning for the future, is setting these students up for success as Senior VCAL students. Official Senior classes will begin with the Early Commencement Program.
