Designed by Nature - Biomimicry Program (Run by the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria)

We had nine students involved in this online program on November 4.  Students learnt how engineers, and other designers, take inspiration from nature in order to solve human problems.  For example, did you know that the structure of the Eiffel Tower is based on the human femur bone!? Or that Velcro was the brainchild of a hiker who was walking in the mountains and burs stuck to his socks?

MFG students used the Golden Barrel Cactus and its various adaptations as inspiration for their own designs.  The 'Spiky Water Helmet' was one design that will keep swooping birds away as well as storing water for the rider.

One group of students also used the face of an owl (and its special adaptations) to design a portable speaker (no power needed) that could be used at large concerts.

Congratulations to the following students who represented MFG beautifully and displayed our MFG Traits so well on this day: Jovi Chamley, Jala Evans, Faizi Faqiri, Augie Messer, Libby Orr, Milla Price, Madelen Skehan, Grace Thomas, and Kayla Yau.
