From the School Leadership Team,

From Chris Chant,

Principal.

Last day of term 4 2020 is Friday 18th December. School will be dismissed at 1.20pm and 1.30 pm.

First day of the 2021 school year for students is Monday 1st February.

The heavy rain over the last weekend ended up entering the second floor hallway outside the staffroom. This water damage has been addressed and the site of the damage inspected. We are awaiting the next steps for the repairs to progress.

We have received the latest COVID updates and guidelines from the DET and there are a number of suggested changes to the current way we are asked to operate during the pandemic. There are some changes to our current procedures that we are able to put back into place very quickly and some restrictions that we will need to work through as the term unfolds.

Our pick up and drop off of students has been operating very smoothly. The children coming on site and making their way to class by themselves has been a huge success during the return to school period. We have reviewed this process and now ask that ALL students arrive at school between 8.45am-9:00am ready for the learning to start at 9:00am.  All students will also now be dismissed at 3.30pm. Please ensure you make the necessary arrangements to ensure your child/ren arrive on time and are picked up at 3.30pm. If your child arrives after 9am they will now be signed in late.  Every school day needs to be as smooth and positive as possible.

All drinking taps have now been switched back on.

The Prep transition program has continued this week with our children attending their scheduled on site visits and completing the activities designed to support their move from early years education into primary school.

Our whole school transition is planned for the morning of Tuesday, December 15th when students will move into their new year levels, meet their teachers and locate their new classrooms.  The year 6 students have been notified of the transition days and how these will be conducted by their destination school for 2021. Year 6 families should contact their school of destination if they have any questions related to transition.

Year 4 and 5 students have been preparing their speeches and presentations to apply for leadership roles across the school during 2021. This formal process involves public speaking, interviews and consultation to allocate these important roles in our school.

Our school is a training venue for pre service teachers. We have a formal partnership with Monash University and on Wednesday night three staff were recognised for their roles as mentors to our new teachers. This recognition highlights the quality of this program and the professionalism of our teaching team.  Mr. Kirk (Grade 5/6) was acknowledged by the  University for his work and impact he has made with his work in this important space.

The EFM Online Auction has gone live and will close on December 4th. Please see inside this newsletter for more information.

Uniform collections continue. Thank you to those families who are placing their donations in the box at the main gate on Balaclava Rd /or handing them to our Parent Committee team members at the Salisbury St and Stanley Pde gates. A number of on site sale days are planned for later this term. We will notify dates and times as we can confirm them.

Please make sure all uniform items, lunch boxes and water bottles are clearly labelled.

We need to be vigilant when we travel around schools. There are speed limits to abide by, road signs that direct our driving and parking arrangements that we also need to be mindful of. Children around schools need to exit cars safely, cross at designated points and be careful as they move around the neighbourhood. We have had a few near misses and we all need to take on the responsibility of road and pedestrian safety. I have added a link for your information.

From Nadia Walker,

Assistant Principal.

Recently our Years 4, 5 & 6 students were involved in responding to the Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS). The AtoSS is an annual survey from the Department of Education and Training that assists us in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. At CJC, we value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. We were excited to receive the results this week and see that our students enjoy coming to school, feel happy at school, feel safe at school, feel that there are people at school to turn to for advice when needed, that their friends and teachers care for them and that learning is fun.

These results are wonderful for us and our students!

From Christelle Breimeyer,

Acting French Director.

Hello CJC families,

Thursday was the International Day of French Teachers.  This represents an opportunity for teachers to unite and exchange in a friendly environment.  Our teachers at CJC met for lunch  and shared experiences and practices.

The French teaching team also started their online training offered by the AEFE.  There are various topics on the agenda:  ‘Written work and language tools in Grade 1 to 6’, ‘Teaching to allophone students’, ‘Teaching with digital tools for a better cooperation in class, and remotely’, to name a few.  These training sessions are presented by instructors in the Asia-Pacific zone for all AEFE teachers within the zone.  Thank you to all our teachers at CJC for their flexibility with the challenging timetables, as  these live online training are often offered quite late in Australia.  The instructors have a mission to find time slots which suit the majority, from India to Vanuatu…

Have a great weekend everyone!
