Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community

Welcome to the start of the 2021 school year. I hope during the break, you were able to have some special time with your families and friends, and were able to experience some moments that are otherwise difficult to find the time to have, in your busy lives.

I would like to welcome our new students and their families who have joined us this year (we will introduce them in the school newsletter next week). It was great to see our Year Prep students and the new students in other classes seeming to be so welcomed into our school community.

Yesterday morning, the playground was vibrant with students catching up with friends and parents with other parents. Smiles and laughter were everywhere to be seen and heard, and were a great indication of how happy everyone was, being back at school. Walking around the classrooms in the morning revealed a studious hum as our students recaptured their focus and enthusiasm for learning so quickly after their holidays. Well done to all our students.

Our Very Very First Day Of School

Already with the answers for Bethany
Already with the answers for Bethany

Our new class of Year Preps showed yesterday that they are going to be another fantastic group of students for our school. They started the day with enthusiasm and expectation, and finished with smiling faces and a great awareness of some of their classes' routines. They were a privilege to watch at their first recess and lunch break, exploring the school grounds and starting to make friends. I know Bethany had a very early night last night and I am guessing so did many of our Year Preps. It promises to be another great year in Year Prep.

COVID PROTOCOLS

With the improved position within our community, some of the safety protocols that we had to introduce last year due to the COVID 19 virus can be reduced this year. The following is a summary of the current protocols.

Parents/Guardians may enter the school grounds of a morning and evening at drop off and pick up times ( I ask that parents/guardians adhere to the required social distancing)

Parents and Guardians are still asked to limit entry into the school building to essential reasons and that they wear a face mask

Dismissal will now be at 3.20pm for all our students

School staff will continue to ensure that our students wash their hands with school provided soap and water on a number of appropriate occasions during the day

The school choir will resume singing both in class and outside, in increased numbers adhering to appropriate distancing

Icy poles will be sold as of next Friday by our school leaders (still a bargain at $1)

Whenever there are changes to our protocols based upon the guidelines from our Chief Medical Officer, you will be informed straight away.

Filming at Sacred Heart School

On Monday 8th February, Tuesday 9th February and Wednesday 10th February, our school is going to be used to film some scenes from the television show, "How to Stay Married". On Monday and Tuesday only our Multipurpose Room is required and the school yard after school. On Wednesday a scene is being shot in the small withdrawal room off the main corridor. I can assure you that the filming on these days will have no effect on our student's working environment.

To all our new families who are receiving this newsletter as a hard copy. Please be aware that its format is setup so that it is read online. In the coming weeks when we have put your email into the system, you will receive the newsletter online. Many parents also read the newsletter through the Skoolbag App. I encourage new families to download this app (instructions are on flyers in the office corridor and are available on request).

Lastly on a sad note, families who access our school facebook page and those with students in Year Six, will know of the tragic passing during the holidays of one of our parents, Deia Abenir. Deia is the mum of Tristian in Year One and Carlos in Year Six. After an incredibly brave fight, Deia went back to be in the hands of God just after Christmas. I ask that you please keep the Abenir family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly challenging time.

Please stay safe.

Sincerely

Mark Tierney
