New House at Trinity

Welcome to Glowrey!

A new year has seen the induction of a new house at Trinity College. It has been an exciting journey to get to the point of deciding on this new house and we thank all in our community for their feedback in our surveys last year.

With a growing population of students, this fourth house will promote greater participation and school spirit across all houses in, not only sporting events, but in a number of other activities and competitions that we wish to introduce over the coming months.

The House is named after Mary Glowrey, who was born in Birregurra in 1887. She graduated in medicine in 1910.

In 1920 Mary gave up her career as a doctor in Australia to go to India to care for the poorest women and children. She became a religious Sister with the Society of Jesus Mary Joseph in Guntur and for many years ministered to thousands of patients who could not otherwise have received care.

She founded the Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), whose members today care for 21 million people a year.

Introducing Glowrey into an already existing house system was not an easy task and last year a team of staff worked very hard to ensure that the movement of students into our new Glowrey House was fair across both ability and age levels.

All students who have moved to Glowrey, either by choice or by invitation, are not expected to purchase a new Glowrey sport T-shirt straight away. We understand that many students in the new Glowrey House will already have good uniform items for sport and they are encouraged to continue wearing their existing sport T-shirts for all their Physical Education classes. When families are ready to purchase a new sport T-shirt, they can do so for a reduced price from the uniform shop.

This is an exciting time in the history of Trinity College and our Glowrey House captains, Trent Blake and Georgia Grist, are bursting with pride and have been looking forward to making this inaugural year for Glowrey one to remember.

So, while students are encouraged to wear their existing sport T-shirt during sport classes, we expect that on our annual College sport days, Glowrey students will dress up in whatever green clothing they can and celebrate the day with a sense of pride and enthusiasm.

Go Glowrey!
