And now for something a little different...
It was with great excitement that we launched our 2021 musical performances with two very dynamic and different performances at Scholar’s Assembly on Monday. Guest speaker, Dr Catherine Noske, reminisced about her time at College and her love of the arts, both in music and drama. In her advice to students, she encouraged them to be open to new opportunities, to embrace the co-curricular programs in the school and acknowledged the benefits to her physical and mental health, and social and academic learning. Included in the formal program, alongside the National Anthem led by Harrison Hocking and College Hymn led by Amelia Baulch, were two completely contrasting performances from VCE Music Performance students. Euan Sutherland’s drumkit solo set the tone, driving us back into our seats, followed by a voice that the Kantor Centre Stage has most likely never seen before - Leyland Jones (Bass) performed two Elizabethan songs displaying his skill as a Countertenor, accompanied by the Senior String Quartet and organ.
Music lessons and Ensemble rehearsals have commenced. Students are reminded that lesson times should be written in the Student Record Book for Term One and attention must be given to prompt attendance. Lessons missed due to absence without cause will be charged and not made up. Email or phone notification regarding student illness can enable rescheduling of lessons. Music timetables are displayed on the notice board and have been emailed. Changes to the timetable will be notified via email so students are reminded to regularly check their email. Any enquiries about music lessons and participation in ensembles should be directed to the Director of Music.
