Library

  • Revise and build on the children’s knowledge of the different locations of the Library – Picture Fiction, Easy Fiction etc.
  • Revise parts of a book (cover, call number, end papers etc.), borrowing and returning procedures and the importance of library bags.
  • Refer to the Library essential agreement regularly when needed.  
  • Revise how to do a keyword search on the computer. 
  • Incorporate the UOI ‘Who We Are’ by reading ‘Thank-you for being my friend’ by P.Bently. 

 

Visual Arts

The Term 1 Unit of Inquiry is called ‘The Pattern Effects of Weather’, which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme - ‘How The World Works’ through the Concepts: change, causation and form. Students explore the art elements of line, mark making and pattern captured in the artistic representation of nature.

 

Students participate in:

  • Reading ‘Ish’ by Peter H Reynolds, which showed the students that drawings and paintings of various subjects do not have to be realistic; they can be artistic interpretations. They use still life shells as the subject, incorporating the use of a range of HB, 2B and 6B pencils to create their shell drawings.  
  • Paper Sculptures created using painted texture inspired by images of the sea during various weather scenarios. They experiment with colours, a variety of tools, methods of applying paint and constructing form.  
  • Exploring illustrative symbols of weather to create an expressive page of pattern, demonstrating drawing skills and creative detail of design.  
  • An introduction to printmaking using specialised sun sensitive paper. They explored shape, composition and the effects of sunlight.     

 

Physical Education

  • Team Building Activities/Parachute/Fundamental Motor Skills.
  • Developing basic movement skills and more complex movement skills.
  • Fun Hockey Clinic.

Focus: Working together as a group showing respect and tolerance for others. Demonstrating open-mindedness and caring for each other. 

Continuing to practice, control and master Fundamental Motor Skills of Rolling, Under/Overarm Throw and Catching.  

 

 Concepts: Responsibility: Looking after sports equipment and personal organization.  

  • Learner Profile: Discussion with the children about Learner Profile attributes demonstrated during the lesson. 

Children begin to identify others who demonstrated a particular Learner Profile.

Who We Are and How the World Works

 

Focus: to establish class routines, encourage participation and re-establish the connection between risk-taking and learning. Students will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge on the differences between Beat and Rhythm, Pitch and Melody.​

 

The students will;

  • Singing songs related to the Unit of Inquiry.
  • Perform “Thank You For Being a Friend” in assembly as part of Wellbeing Week. 
  • Be introduced to formal signs and symbols used in music.  
  • Become more knowledgeable as they learn to read and write rhythms. 
  • Describe changes heard within a piece of music. 
  • Revise correct techniques for instrument playing. 
  • Show independence as they take part in action rhymes, dances and games where each child has a leadership role.  
  • Demonstrate respect as they learn to look after classroom instruments  
  • Be involved in a whole class performance using chime bars, for the class teacher called “Rain Rain”.
