From the Team 3/4 Classrooms

For the last 3 weeks, the students in Years 3 and 4 have been busy completing "My Island Home" projects.

This has involved creating a new island somewhere in the world ...a little like the Palm Islands in Dubai, but much grander!

The students in small groups, chose a location for their island that could have been anywhere in the world. It could have been located in the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean! Obviously some locations are more desirable than others, but literally, the 'world was their oyster.'

Once chosen, they began to think about the climate and geography of the island, based on the location. Some islands had beaches and volcanos whilst others provided great farming land where potato and wheat crops could be grown.

It was then that the fun began!

The students in their groups created maps. They were also asked to create a Flag, a Coat of Arms and wrote a National Anthem that reflected their island's values. Each group spent time discussing each component to ensure that the Flag, Coat of Arms and National Anthem  authenically represented them as a Nation.

Finally they were asked to build a model of their island, showing the features and details they had drawn into their maps. With cardboard, paper, cellophane, paint, glue, felt, magic clay, paddle pop sticks, small pebbles and sand, the islands were created.

It was a very busy three weeks and all students should feel very proud of their efforts in creating wonderful islands.

Below are photos from across all grades in Team 3/4 that reflect the fabulous work of all students.
