BREAKING NEWS !!

If there is one thing that the people of Melbourne did during the COVID-19 lockdown it was to ride their bikes !

Riding was an opportunity for many to connect with nature, get exercise and go places !

At B.P.P.S. we are always looking for ways to find the positive and be grateful.

We are therefore very excited to announce that our school has been selected to take part in a program that will promote bike riding. This program, run by Dr. Cranky’s is called the BREAKS (Bicycle Recycling and Engagement for Active Kids at Schools) project. It is a partnership  with the Boroondara Council, local schools, and VicHealth.  Dr Cranky’s has been helping schools since 2014 to recycle over 2400 bikes at 15 schools.

We believe that Dr. Cranky’s will help us put our words into action. This program  will support our Ride to School program as well as our Resource Smart  initiatives.

Dr. Cranky’s is a program that will support more students to ride more often. It does this by helping parent volunteers recycle and repair bikes within the community to ensure every child has access to a working bike.

There is no cost to the school but we will need parent volunteers to run the program with Dr Cranky’s support. This support will include providing tools, parts, training and insurance. We have one community volunteer in the area who is willing to help and need more.  Volunteering is a great way to contribute and stay connected at school – Dr Cranky will teach you basic bike mechanics if you need it. You can learn to change a tube or adjust your gears.
