Gastroenteritis

DHHS has issued an advisory for Gastroenteritis in childcare settings. We have had some students displaying symptoms at Cranbourne South Primary School such as abdominal pain and vomiting.

The following information is from the DHHS advisory issued 09 Mar 2021

Symptoms of viral gastroenteritis include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache and muscle aches. They can take up to three days to develop and usually last between one or two days, sometimes longer.

The main complication of gastroenteritis is dehydration, but this can be prevented if the fluids lost in vomit and diarrhoea is replaced, ideally with electrolyte solutions or ice blocks (Hydrolyte/Gastrolyte).

Gastroenteritis is highly infectious and may spread rapidly. The virus is present in the vomit and faeces of an infected person and can spread either: from close contact with infected persons; contact with contaminated surfaces; or consuming contaminated food or drink. Viruses are often spread from person-to-person, and to objects and food via unwashed hands.

DHHS recommends Infants or children in childcare or school who develop vomiting or diarrhoea must stay at home until at least 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped, as should staff members and anyone whose work involves handling food or looking after children, the elderly or patients.

Head Lice Reminder

Please regularly check your child’s hair. If head lice are found, please treat before

sending your child to school.

ASCIA Allergy Action Plans

These plans are required for all allergies to food, insects and medicines.

They are required to be updated after an allergy event or if any changes occur. These plans must be reviewed with the school every 12 months. They must also be signed and dated by a doctor and have a renewal date. To attend any offsite events including school camps, these forms must be current.

School Camp and Asthma

School camps are in Term 2, a reminder that if we have not received a Victorian Schools Action plan in the last 12 months that has been signed by a medical practitioner, your child will not be able to attend Camp.  It is the parents responsibility to ensure the school has the current and correct health information for your child.

All asthmatic students attending camp will need to fill in an Asthma Foundation School Camp form, this form tells the First Aider for camp the current condition of your childs asthma and any preventative medication your child would normally take at home. These forms will be sent home with your child and they do not require a doctors signature.

Thank you for your support.

Sunsmart

Even though Summer has ended, the sun can still cause harm. We encourage you to apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school. There is sunscreen available in the classroom, for children to reapply if needed. It is Coles and Woolworths homebrand 50+. If your child has any allergies to this particular sunscreen, please notify your child’s teacher.

Coronavirus

Reminder that sharing of food at school is not allowed under the DET covid safe plan.

If your child is displaying symptoms, we encourage you to have them tested for covid. Students displaying symptoms will be sent home.

Remember to Stay Safe and Stay Open, we all need to follow the DHHS advice. 1.5m distancing and get tested if displaying symptoms. For more information go to DHHS Coronavirus page or the Dept of Education Coronavirus Advice page

Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell.

Sad fact.  Even a little sniffle, cough or tummy upset can start an avalanche of illness in your child's class. If your child is even mildly unwell, please keep them at home until they are well.
