Middle Years News

ROOM 13

It has been wonderful getting to know each other this term in Room 13. We have made new friends in our room, learned new routines, and have had lots of fun playing and learning together. And we still love playing with our old friends too!

Our favourite activities include playing outside with our friends across JSA, exercising in the OT room and climbing room, and playing games during our lessons. We are all working hard during our lessons and learning to follow the expected behaviours in the classroom and on the playground.

This term, we all worked on a group project together in Media Arts class with Cisy. We chose to make a lion costume like the ones used for dancing during Lunar New Year. After we made the costume, we created and practised a dance to perform. We are so proud of our project and love showing it to our friends and other students and teachers across the school!

Middle Years Sub School News

Middle years have been having lots of fun looking at cultural identity this term. Room 13 made an amazing Lion dance costume. It was fantastic to see them performing in playground 3. They have made plans to perform to the primary sub school and to the middle sub school on Harmony day.

Preparations are underway for Harmony day. Students will be creating hats to take part in a hat parade. I look forward to seeing all their creations. Students will be making hats with their house colours or cultural hats.

It was fantastic to attend the Student Leadership meeting this week and to hear the ideas and concerns spoken about. This team looks at things happening around the school and ways to include everyone. At the moment they are preparing for Jacanarama and Mario Smash. It is a fantastic opportunity for our students to step up and become Student Leaders. They are then able to help their peers by encouraging to look after themselves, others and property and being a voice for their peers by bringing ideas and concerns.

Room 16 has been learning about trains. They have been talking about steam engines and modern trains.

  • Adam was able to tell me all about the freight train that he can see from the school and that it carries things to faraway places.
  • Gabriel spoke about the Metro trains that are in Melbourne and at the station where he lives.
  • Patrick was able to talk about how that trains can go very fast .

Middle Years is always a busy sub school with lots of things happening.
