Welcome to 2021 everyone: I am Gordon Gunn and I would like to tell you a bit about myself as I take on the exciting role of Head of Music and Performing Arts at Scoresby Secondary College. I am so impressed with the caring and nurturing approach taken by our teachers; the wonderful nature of our students, and the exemplary hard work and community spirit of our school and its environment.

My own personal experience is one of wanting to build a successful career in the music industry; not only as a highly competent musician, but to involve myself in many styles of musical performance joining many local bands, Maxim, Elroy Band, supporting great vocalists such as John Farnham, Normie Rowe, including completing many recordings and television gigs. I got the chance to tour much of Europe playing with some of the biggest names in their music industry too.

Teaching music though is what I really wanted to end up doing mostly. I felt the urge to pass on to everyone I meet the joys of playing music, performance, expression, and studying the culture and styles of all music of the world which I could not fully do in my playing career. I earned my Bachelor of Education and Masters of Music; a dedicated lifelong learner of music, a passion which overrides everything else in my outlook on life.

My teaching experience covers working in schools like Preston East Technical School, Northland Secondary College, Catholic Ladies College, Kingswood College, Kew High School, Cranbourne Secondary College and Mount Waverley Secondary College, working and developing the talent of many students; many who are involved in performing in the music Industry today as songwriters, composers, band and orchestra members, recording artists or in entrepreneurial music and arts related positions including teaching careers.

I have played professionally with many nationalities including Greek, African, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Turkish, Sri Lankan, Indian and Celtic music artists, including being involved in playing at large concerts and smaller venues to so many delightful and exciting audiences in Australia and overseas.

My first instrument of love is my double bass, but I can comfortably play quite a few instruments deciding to learn as many instruments as I could practice. The ability to play many instruments means I get to meet and respond to many audiences, opening up many performance opportunities.

I am passionate about my involvement at Scoresby Secondary College wanting to make a difference to the wonderful lives of our students, wider community, and I am in awe at the standard of our teaching talent within the school and how they genuinely care for their community.

Thank you for providing me this wonderful opportunity.

Mr Gordon Gunn
