Junior School Report

Junior School Report

It has been a great start to the school year with students quickly settling into the routine of high school. In particular, we would like to acknowledge the hard work of the staff, students, parents and families during the short remote learning period. It was fantastic to have such a smooth transition to online learning, and see students continue to engage in their learning whilst being at home. The short lockdown is a timely reminder that students should ensure that they are able to log on to and access Compass and their Scoresby email. Please ask your child to see Mr Knight they are unable to do this and / or have any ICT issues.

Year 7 Camp Rumbug

Last week all Year 7 students attended a three-day orientation experience at Camp Rumbug. The focus of this camp was to build resilience, problem-solving skills and develop independence as they begin their high school journey as young adults. Students participated in a range of outdoor adventure activities including the giant swing, flying fox, canoeing, team building, orienteering and a very messy mud run. It was a pleasure watching our new students overcome challenges and conquer fears as they took a step outside their comfort zone and demonstrated strength, perseverance and collaboration. The camp staff also commented on how respectful and well-mannered Scoresby students were during their visit. Below are some reflections from our students.

  • Going upside down on the zip line was so exciting!
  • Lots of fun with new and old friends
  • I loved canoeing! It was a great experience and I enjoyed working together as a team.
  • I had great cabin mates and really enjoyed the experience

KIOSC Excursion

Please note that the year 9 KIOSC excursion has been rescheduled to Wednesday 10 March. This excursion will provide students with the opportunity to investigate how technology can be applied to optimising food production to ensure that the needs of a growing world population are met. New permission forms for this event have been provided to students, and it is expected that these be returned by the end of this week (Friday 5 March). We look forward to hearing the highlights from this excursion in the next edition of our newsletter.

Looking Forward

As we embark on the final weeks of Term 1, we encourage students to continue to practise good learning habits. These include using the College planner to ensure they stay organised, embrace a growth mindset, and utilise the support services available within the College such as homework club and teaching staff.

There are also a number of key events coming up which include:

  • Intermediate Volleyball - Tuesday 9 March
  • Elevate Education - Thursday 18 March.
  • Parent / Teacher / Student Conferences- Thursday 25 March
