VCE Information Evening

The VCE information evening for Year 10, 11 and 12 students studying the VCE and their parents / carers was conducted on Wednesday 3 March. The information evening covered important details, including:

  • VCE processes
  • Satisfying VCE requirements
  • VCE policies and rules
  • Expectations of students
  • Understanding study scores and the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR)

Scoresby Secondary College has high expectations of students and the evening supported the important partnership with parents and carers in their child’s education. The notes from the presentation can be obtained by contacting Mr Stirling at the college.

Student / Parent / Guardian / Teacher Conferences

Theseare scheduled for Thursday 25 March. The interviews are an important aspect of the three-way partnership between students, parents / carers and teachers to maximise student academic outcomes and welfare.

As well as providing an update on student learning, the interviews help teachers understand your child better and is another avenue for parents / carers, students and teachers to develop and review the shared goals for the student’s learning. Parents / carers are encouraged to ask their child before the interviews if there are any questions they would like asked and / or if there is something they would like their teachers to know.  It is also important to talk to your child after the interviews to discuss the recommendations and strategies to maximise learning.

College Athletics Day

Congratulations to the Senior School students on their efforts at the Athletics Day held on Tuesday 2 March. Many of the Year 12 students led a sense of fun and community by dressing up in costumes and house colours. Stand-out costumes this year included a Viking, a mustard bottle, and a number of TV, movie and book characters. It was great to see the senior track and field events full of eager participants all aiming to get a winner’s ribbon and, of course, those important house points!

Central Australia Camp

At the College Council meeting on February 25 it was decided to postpone the Central Australia Camp for 2021. This decision was made necessary due to the uncertainty that still exists with the pandemic. Conducting the camp in the current pandemic environment exposes parents / carers to a significant loss of money in the case of a cancellation due to border closures or another lockdown. The possibility of students and teachers needing to quarantine for 14 days in the event of changes to border rules was also a consideration.

A decision has been made to conduct the Central Australia Camp in 2022 during the last three days of Term One and the first week of the first term school holidays. This will mean that in 2022, students attending the camp will be Year 11 and 12 students. Conducting the camp early in the 2022 school year will ensure that there is no impact on Year 11 and 12 programs. The Camp applications and deposits already submitted for the Central Australia camp will be honoured for 2022. This means that the students with a place on the camp and on the waiting list will be rolled over when organising the 2022 Camp.

Please contact Mr Stirling, Head of Senior School, should you have any questions.

Year 11 Elevate Study Skills Program

On Tuesday 23 February the Year 11 VCE students completed the ‘Time Management and Beating Procrastination’ session presented by the study skills organisation Elevate. The students examined and developed their skills in:

  • the four elements of time management
  • determining priorities
  • creating a weekly planner
  • maximising marks in assessments
  • creating study groups
  • avoiding procrastination

Student feedback after the session was extremely positive with 100% of students saying that they would recommend the seminar to their peers and 100% of students saying that the seminar was time well spent helping their learning skills. Each student was also provided with access to online resources to help with their study techniques. Senior School will follow up with the students early Term 2 to ensure students are using their study time and skills more effectively.
