Dear parents/carers

As we approach Week 8 of term 1, I am so thrilled to be able to walk through the school at anytime and see our students all on task and working collaboratively with their peers and teachers.  I am amazed by the classroom routines and structures that have been established so well in a relatively short space of time, especially after a disruptive year in 2020.

We are now starting to look at ways to celebrate our students success' over the week. You will find in the foyer we have begun displaying students work that teachers want the world to know about.  This week Layla in 3/4R did an outstanding job with her spelling words, challenging herself to try beyond her level spelling words.  We had Asher and Hazel in Prep/1K also dazzle their teacher with their writing this week.  A focus in their mini-lesson on full-stops and capital letters was evident as they applied this skill to their own writing. What a great effort for 7 weeks into Prep.

Next week is Harmony week and Friday 19th March is the National Day of Action Against Bullying. We will be running a special assembly on the Friday at 11:30am and all students can wear free dress - with a touch of orange.  A gold coin donation will go towards purchasing a range of picture books that promote kindness, inclusion, diversity and anti bullying messages. These texts will be used in the classroom and available for students to loan in the Library. Next week, all students will be making a pledge to be kind and we are creating a whole school display in the foyer to display our pledges.

At Monday's assembly (15th March) we will be watching a video on how to be an up-stander (link below). More often than not students in school that are being targeted have people around them that see the behaviour. These people are called bystanders and we want to give these bystanders some possible strategies to use when they see their friend being treated badly or bullied.

I hope you have a great weekend and get a chance to wind down with your family.

Take care,

Nieta
