Year 8 Camp

Last week, Year 8 went to Camp Somerset along the picturesque Colo River. Throughout the week, the boys participated in a range of challenging physical activities including hiking expeditions, canoeing journeys, rock climbing, obstacles courses, abseiling and more. Their capabilities were certainly tested, and some true leadership was able to shine through as they developed their team spirit and lived out our Year group theme ‘Serve one another humbly in love’. The boys were also involved in preparing and cooking all of their own meals for the week. I was lucky to see many of the meals that were prepared, and it is clear there are a few ‘MasterChefs’ in the making! I hope that the boys will be able to show off their new skills in the kitchen at home.

I would like to acknowledge the Camp Somerset staff who were organised and energetic as always. I would also particularly like to thank the following staff: Mr Robert Simpson, Ms Caterina Romeo, Mr Peter Maxwell, Mr James Biviano, Mr Liam Heffernan, Mr Lorenzo Fontana, Mr Tevita Afeaki, Ms Maria Marrapodi, Ms Eden Boundy, Ms Sarah Cristanelli, Mr Joshua Youssef and Ms Hannah Smith. I cannot thank these staff members enough for their patience, perseverance, and support of these young men during the week, and for giving up their time to be away from their loved ones and homes.

At the conclusion of camp, I asked each group leader to nominate their ‘Most Valuable Camper’ of the week. These boys consistently demonstrated courage, resilience and leadership. They will be presented with a certificate at our next PCP.

Congratulations to the following ‘Most Valuable Campers’:

  • Bass- George Lahoud
  • Burke- Joshua Malone
  • Cunningham- Adonis Thanos
  • Flinders- Thomas Mastroianni
  • Gregory- Oliver Dib
  • Kennedy- Jacob Tran
  • Oxley- Christopher Costa

The Year 8 boys were exceptional and I hope that even if they were taken out of their comfort zone, they enjoyed their camp experience overall. Well done to all of Year 8!
