Kindergarten News

What a fantastic first term we have had at Kinder so far. It has definitely been a change from the past year, with families not being on site, not meeting our classes until the parent and child sessions and a mini lock down, just to add to the mix.

It's not surprising that the start of the year has also presented the Teaching staff with some differences in the developmental levels of each child. Given everything that we observed through 2020, anecdotal discussions with colleagues and a deep understanding of early childhood development, our incredible team pre-empted and designed strategies and processes to scaffold and support each child as they started their 2021 kindergarten journey. As the Kindergarten Leader, I am incredibly proud of all of our team at MPRPSK, their professionalism and tireless work has not only ensured success for each child, but their willingness to reflect and adapt to what their classes and each child requires, has meant that we have been able to compensate for 2020 whilst creating a safe and secure environment all in 10 weeks!

We are also excited to be at the point of assigning a builder for our Kindergarten Outdoor Renovation. There is still much to do here, but the good news is that the yard will be finished this year, allowing our current children to be the first to engage in the amazing learning environment.

What an amazing wonderful term we have had in the Moore Room with our Budja and Gawarn classes. We have celebrated Chinese New Year – particularly enjoying making dumplings. Storytelling has been a highlight, using audio books, felts, pasting and painting. Manipulative construction has been thoroughly enjoyed with fantastic creations created and mathematical concepts explored. We have mixed primary colours to discover secondary colours. Dinosaurs, volcanoes, insect discoveries, mindfulness moments and getting to know each other through games, music and dance has also contributed to make this a great start to the year.

The children have quickly developed a sense of belonging and connection within their classes and this has led to incredible learning and social moments.

The children have loved singing, drama, stories and puppets over the term, eagerly starting each day together. There has been co-operative and collaborative play occurring, with conversations, laughter and ideas shared as the children manipulate playdoh, paint at the easel or engage with the many construction based activities.

Our Marram class has begun interacting in large conceptual discussions, fleshing out concepts of change, Science and how the world works. We have visited the garden, cooked and explored how to be a kind member of the classroom.

Our Wimbi class has been enjoying singing and working with puppets! Their smiles and laughter are infectious and matched with incredible personalities, we have a lot of fun each session participating in learning about the world they live in.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone, stay safe and we will see you all in Term Two.
