We are very excited by the prospect of our students returning to onsite learning in the coming weeks. While there is much enthusiasm we also understand that this may also be met with some trepidation.

Please see follwing some tips that may help your child getting ready for to return to school:

  • Speak about the return positively
  • Openly communicate and discuss how your child/ren is feeling
  • Acknowledge any concerns
  • Reassure your child/ren that it is safe to come back to school
  • Discuss good hygiene habits
  • Encourage positive behaviours around wearing face masks
  • Re-establish normal routines and pre-empt any changes to this
  • Help your child/ren identify who they can speak to at school if they are feeling concerned or worried
  • If time and weather permits take a walk to school in the days leading up to the return

At NMPS we are dedicated to wellbeing of our students and during our curriculum day a focus was placed on planning and preparing our students for the return through wellbeing lessons and strategies.

The Department of Education has also released a great document of wellbeing activities for parents of primary-aged students, these activities are separated into different age groups and are short, powerful, and require minimal if any resources. The aim is to build and maintain your child’s wellbeing, we really encourage everyone to have a look.
