Debating

Last Friday evening our Year 11B Team of Ben Cullen, Max Leo, Will Staber and Will Ramsbottom (reserve) debated Rosebank College in the CSDA Quarter Finals.

Our debaters were the Negative team on the topic:  "That we should look to the East rather than the West".

Our students presented a very clever and well-considered argument on the topic.  They asserted the need for the Affirmative team to ensure their ‘burden of proof’ and consistently engaged with every point presented by the Affirmative. Our students' rebuttals displayed an effective reflection on the debate that was occurring in the room, and presented a professional annihilation of each the issues/topics raised by the Affirmative team.  

Despite their hard work and very well presented arguments, unfortunately we were not successful on the night.  Congratulations to Rosebank College for receiving the win.

On Monday 18 October our Year 9 debaters debated Mount St Joseph Catholic College Milperra in the CSDA Quarter Finals.

Milperra engaged an independent adjudicator for Monday night’s debate.

Our debaters were the Negative team on the topic:  "That we are too quick to judge".

Our (to-date-undefeated) Year 9B Team were Jose Monk, Alexandre Colinard and Quinton Crispe. Our students had brilliant ideas and were able to rebut the perspectives presented by the Affirmative but we could not argue these ‘ideas’ with clarity and cohesion.  

I am so proud of both teams, as are their coaches and the school.
