Year 12 Graduation

In a very different year we wish our Year 12 Class of 2021 every best wish as they conclude their time in classes this week, with their Study Day (Tuesday), Retreat Day (Wednesday) and Homeroom Graduation Day (Thursday) all held next week at Oxford Falls.

At the form meeting today the Class of 2021 were informed that they have been sponsored by the College to life membership of the Old Boy's Association. To receive this honour on Graduation (and their tie, pin and sponsored invitation to the 2022 Annual Dinner) each boy will need to give his non-school email and mobile phone contacts on the Microsoft form distributed today.

The boys have weathered the 2021 storm and final preparations for the HSC are in order. We will follow all of our Safety protocols and pray that their efforts will be rewarded in the HSC and in all things beyond that.

House Cup

The St Pius X College House Cup is a measure of student engagement, voice and participation across all curricula and co curricula activities of the College. It is adjudicated by our College Vice Captains who in 2021 are Nick Ward and Alec Ramsbottom who now hand over to Ronan Crispe and Ben Cullen for 2022.

Monday's Assembly was attended by the 2021 House Captains: Pat Moore, Ben Ferguson, Dom Panozzo and Fred Braddock. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 Safety protections around the HSC cohort they could not be joined by Year 11 House Captains: Harry Melloy, Ollie Aylmer, Ethan Rossetto and Harrison O’Brien.

In a close result the 2021 House Cup was taken out by Treacy House and in his Captain’s acceptance speech Dom Panozzo fittingly dedicated the victory to their late class mate Tom Van Dijk. As a top student, musician (Violin and Guitar), and sportsman (Swimming, Football and Rugby) Tom accrued countless points for the Treacy House in the House Cup competition this year and throughout his time at the College.

Vale Tom Van Dijk.

Student Empowerment Team Year 9 and 10

As school commences next week Mr Russo has recruited a strong team of Year 9 and 10 students to attend the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Mental Health Youth Forum on 26 October at the invitation of MP Matt Kean.

The formation of these student empowerment teams continues a strong recent tradition of St Pius X students leading the way in advocacy for wellbeing and future thinking.

Mission Zero News.com story

Congratulations to Year 12 student leader, Cultural Prefect and Performing Arts Captain James Baldock from Year 12 who was interviewed by Newscorp last Friday to articulate the St Pius X College Student View on climate action.

James was joined by Michael Krizan of Year 9 who expressed his vision for a carbon neutral environment in his recent application to join the newly formed Year 9/10 Student Empowerment Team.

Both students were able to explain some of the action strategies across the College and in their lives to reduce waste of water, electricity and paper and generally improve the environmental impact and outcomes for our future.

Michael was one of five Year 9 students who participated in our June Red Dirt Expedition and his passion for social justice and community building is highly evident.

The College’s reputation and advocacy is in good student hands.

Vale Liam Vinci

The extended College community has been deeply affected by the loss of Liam Vinci (Class of 2020) in a car accident early Monday morning. Liam and his family are deeply connected with the St Pius X College and Our Lady of Good Counsel Forestville communities in so many ways. Liam’s brother, Alec (’17) Dad and Uncle attended the College and while his sister Emma attended Brigidine College, St Ives.  His other sister, Nina, currently attends Brigidine College.

Emma’s participation on the SPX Snowy Hike in 2014 is testament to deep bonds between the College and this wonderful family.

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Heide, Robert, Emma, Alec and Nina as well as the Class of 2020 at this sad time.
