Farewell Year 12, 2021 and Thank You for the Music

As Term 3 draws to a close and our Year 12 students depart, I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge all the musicians in Year 12 who have contributed to the musical life of the School over so many years. Each of them has demonstrated commitment and leadership in their various roles and they will be greatly missed by all of us in the Music Department.

Gabriella Antarakis (Music Captain and Choir)  Harrison Jarman (Music Captain, Audio Visual Captain and Concert Band), Sebastian Aldred (Concert Band, Stage Band and Orchestra), Michayla Clarke (Chamber Ensemble and Orchestra), Tom Delaney (Choir, Concert Band, Stage Band and Orchestra), Indigo Franklin (Chamber Ensemble and Orchestra), Mirah Larkin (Choir, Orchestra, Stage Band), Matilda Smith (Choir), Mary Smallhorn (Choir, Handbells and Orchestra) and Selina Zhu ( Choir).

Thank you for attending countless rehearsals and providing outstanding performances at Assemblies, Soirees, Whole School Concerts, annual School Balls, Presentation Evenings and countless external community events.  It has truly been a pleasure to watch you grow and mature as musicians and I sincerely hope that music continues to play a part in your future.  I also thank you also for contributing so positively to the wonderful culture of inclusivity, inspiration and friendship that exists in our Music program.  To conclude, I have taken some liberty with lyrics of the iconic Swedish pop band ABBA:

We say thank you for the Music, the songs we’ve sung,

Thanks for all the joy you’ve brought

How can we live without you? We ask in all honesty,

What would life be?

Without a song or a score, what are we?

So we say thank you for the Music

For sharing it with us!

WAAPA’s brand new Bachelor of Music is now open for applications!

WAAPA’s new BMus was designed to reflect the Music industry of today. The music landscape has changed a lot over the last few decades – classical musicians are working with pop artists, pop artists are working with jazz musicians, composers are writing for the gaming industry and artists are creating masterpieces from home. Music streaming and YouTube have created new pathways for success in an industry that thrives on creativity and originality, which is the focus of the new course.

WAAPA is also the only institution in Australia where you’ll get to perform with dancers, theatre makers, actors, and in the pit of a musical, all under the one roof.

All interstate applicants can submit video auditions for consideration, so why wait? Apply now to launch your career with WAAPA.
