Senior School

As we draw to the close of this long and unusual term, please note that on this occasion I will be sending a “Start of Term 4 Letter”, rather than an “End of Term 3 Letter.”  It has been my experience over recent months that information and advice from the authorities remains subject to rapid and frequent change as the COVID-19 situation unfolds, and my preference is to wait until a little closer to the beginning of term to communicate detailed operational information. To do this, Mrs. Alicia Michielsen, Mrs. Gaynor MacKinnon and I will be offering a series of Cohort Zoom Meetings for both students and parents on Friday, 1st October (the second Friday of the break) at the following times:

Year 7: 8:30am

Year 8: 9:30am

Year 9: 10:30am

Year 10: 12:30am

Year 11: 1:30pm

Year 12: 2:30pm

In these Cohort Zoom Meetings we will be discussing changes to our Staff team, expectations for online learning, wellbeing initiatives and COVID-safe plans for students’ return to school. My Start of Term 4 Letter will be sent shortly thereafter. To join your Cohort Zoom Meeting please click here

Year 12 students and parents please note that you will receive a letter from me this week outlining our approach to supporting you in the lead-up to your HSC Examinations, and also to celebrating the conclusion of your time here at Blue Mountains Grammar School.

As we conclude the term we wish Mrs. Jacqueline Tanner, Mrs. Julie Cooney and Mr. Gregory Horne all the very best as they enjoy some well-earned long service leave. From the beginning of Term 4 I am pleased to welcome Mr. John Quilter to the Senior School Team. Mr. Quilter comes with long and varied teaching experience both in Australia and the USA, and will be joining the PDHPE Team. We congratulate Mrs. Jacqueline Haines on her appointment (now a few weeks ago) as Acting Head of Deane House, Mr. Brendan O’Keefe on his appointment as Acting Head of Hughes House, and Mr. Dirk Weibye who will be Acting Head of MacLaurin House. I have every confidence that they will do an outstanding job of caring for our students in Term 4.

It is my hope that this holiday will be a time of refreshment and relaxation for you and your family, and we will look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.

Mr Owen Laffin

Deputy Head - Head of Senior School
