Creative Arts

Year 8 Art

This Semester, the Year 8s experienced many creative endeavors in Art. We explored the wide varieties of art principles and elements and spent time drawing ten intuitive observational drawings.

Next, learnt about modern art styles which reject and challenge anything traditional. These styles include Fauvism, Expression, Cubism, Surrealism and Pop Art. We executed one of these styles in a painting. However, we first devised a development of our idea. We collected three to five special possessions, then drew an observational drawing of them.

Next, we created three designs with these special possessions, based on one of the art styles. We then chose our favourite idea to paint as our final design.

Lastly, we created ceramics based on microscopic organisms with clay. We took inspiration from actual microscopic organisms in the ocean, then drew up three designs and decided on one which was our final design. In the creation process, we made thick bases and coils to ensure the ceramic wouldn’t fall apart. Once the ceramic was fired we laid thick  layers of coloured glaze to enlighten the piece.

Overall, Year 8 Art has been extremely enjoyable and we will take the skills we have learnt into further years of creative studies.
