Junior Class - Mrs Creek

The whole school has set aside an hour in the Literacy Block this week to showcase a story through teacher retells, student performance of the story and learning about sentence construction.  Our story was called ‘Bilby Moon’, and this is a follow up to our Professional Day in Mildura last term.  Within Mathematics, there has been a money focus for Year 1’s and all students are learning to ‘count on’.  Shape patterns are also a feature for Foundation students.  Please keep up the great home reading routines.  Text discussions are also helpful for your child to gather meaning.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week has been a very mixed up week in YearS 2 and 3!  In the mornings we have been reading and getting a deeper understanding and knowledge of the text ‘Fox’ by Margaret Wild.  We have created pictures and changed the text to the very first sentence to create a deeper understanding around word choices and how they can help us to become more interesting writers.  We have also had some very quiet mornings from 10am when over half of our class, the Year 3s go off to NAPLAN.  This has been a wonderful time for the Year 2s to spend time with Mrs Pilgrim and myself, as we only have to focus on 3 children each at one time!  In Maths both the Year 2s and Year 3s have been focusing on using the split and jump strategies for addition.  The Year 2s have been focusing on adding 2-digit numbers while the Year 3s focussed on adding 3-digit numbers.

Senior Class - Miss Walker

For our Literacy focus this week, the class has been exploring a text called ‘Fox’ by Margaret Wild and discovering what makes it such a great book.  Hopefully we will become inspired to write like professional authors and make up interesting and descriptive sentences to engage an audience.  The Year 5 students have been attending NAPLAN testing this week and we look forward to getting results back in a few months time.  In Maths, we are all focusing on multiplication and division.  On Wednesday afternoon, for Integrated Studies, we took a trip to the Library which was very informative.

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Tessa with a Little Joey award.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's voucher was donated by Wimmera Bakery.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.
