Sammy D Incursion

On Monday of Week 8, students in years 5-7 engaged in the Anti-Violence workshop presented by Neil Davis from the Sammy D Foundation. Through listening to the life of Sam Davis, students explored the seriousness of “one punch” and how it can impact so many people’s lives. Together we must look out for our mates #mateship

Festival of Music

After months of rehearsals, hard work and dedication the Clovelly Park choir students finally got to perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as part of the iconic Festival of Music.  The festival has been a rite of passage for many South Australian school children for over 130 years.  The program reaches thousands of primary and secondary children annually and allows children the opportunity to perform alongside hundreds of other students from across the state.  Congratulations to Imogen, Caitlyn, Jasmine, Ashlyn, Sahasra, Evie, Bella and Celestina who added their voices to the Festival of Music choir in 2021.  Well done girls!  The school is purchasing a download of the concert and this will be made available to parents on request.

100 Days of Learning

Looking back earlier in the year, the receptions and year 1 students from R4 and R5 celebrated 100 Days of Learning. Students and teachers dressed as though they were 100 years old and had a wonderful day celebrating all things 100. The day focused on play-based maths activities and students enjoyed writing about what they will be like when they are 100. The kids (and teachers) had such a memorable day, we are so proud of our accomplishments so far this year!

Units of Measurement

Y3 students enjoyed learning about measurement. They used multiple informal and formal units to measure length, mass or capacity. It was very interesting and the students especially liked arranging the each student in Y3 from tallest to shortest and heaviest to lightest.

Hamilton Secondary College – Space Week

This week Hamilton College invited our year 4-7 students to join in their space themed activities. B1 & B2 participated in 'The Eggle has Landed' and 'Earth 2.0'. The Eggle has Landed involved students creating an aircraft that could safely fall from a height while carrying an egg. This activity had many ups and downs as we watched some of the designs fall gracefully from the balcony and others plummet to the ground. The Earth 2.0 activity had students researching exoplanets and their unique appearances. Students then had to design their own exoplanet and present it to the class. Both classes had a fantastic experience and we appreciate Hamilton Secondary College inviting our students to participate.

English Vocabulary in IELC

This term, in IELC we have been learning English vocabulary around the theme of Australian animals. We began by participating in a range of activities to help us learn the names, habitats, features and behaviours of Australian Animals. Next, we discussed how we can describe Australian animals using colours, numbers and sizes. Then we looked at the structure of an information report and learnt how to organise animal facts under the appropriate headings. Below are some of the learning tasks we completed.  We learnt the names of Australian animals through Aboriginal art and made a display of the platypus and labelled it's features.  The class wrote about kangaroo facts and students independently described attributes of the koala.
