GOSPEL READING

Feast of the Most Holy Trinity - Year B

This week the Church celebrates The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. This solemnity celebrates the Holy Trinity as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Gospel invites us to remember that God has revealed himself to us as one God in three Persons.

As Jesus departed from his disciples, he shared with them the power to make disciples of all nations. He taught his disciples to invite others to share in the life of the blessed Trinity by sharing with others the gift of Baptism. This continues to be the mission of the Church. Each of us who has been baptized shares in the life of the blessed Trinity and also shares in the Church’s mission of inviting others to share in God’s love. Therefore, as Jesus commissioned his Disciples, we too are invited to teach others what Christ has taught us. Jesus promised that he would always be with us as we carry out the mission of the Church.

Reflection As teachers and parents, we too are commissioned by the Church to be the first and most significant teachers of the faith for our children. We present our children to the Church for Baptism, we teach them the Commandments, and we share with them the Good News of Jesus Christ. We show them how to live as Christ’s disciples in the world today. In this way, the Church on Earth grows and is strengthened.

Discussion Starters

God has given me the power to . . .

I think that one of God’s most important commandments is . . . because . . .

When I hear that Jesus is with me always, it makes me feel . . .

What more can I do to fulfil my role?

Let us pray

God of all, fill us with your Spirit of love and peace

and help us to spread your word

and to show our faith by how we treat each other.

Christ Jesus, you are always with us.

May we show love for our neighbour,

treating all people as we would wish to be treated.

And through what we do,

may others see that we believe in you.

We ask this through Christ, your Son, who is with us always.

Amen.
