Remote Learning at SFS

We will be commencing remote learning once again from Monday 31 May to Thursday 3 June 2021 during this Victorian statewide lockdown.

Student attendance on site

  • Children where both parents and/or carers are authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an essential provider and where no other supervision arrangements can be made:
    • Where there are two parents/carers, both must be authorised workers, working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.
    • For single parents/carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.
  • Children experiencing vulnerability, including:
    • children in out-of-home care
    • children deemed vulnerable by a government agency, funded family or family violence service, and is assessed as requiring education and care outside the family home
    • children identified by a school as vulnerable, including via referral from a government agency, or funded family or family violence service, homeless or youth justice service or mental health or other health service.

Parents who have requested that their child works at school must provide evidence that both parent/carers are essential workers. Please email the school office.

It is important to understand that students will receive the same learning program at home, as those who attend school. At this stage it is likely that most teachers will be teaching remotely from home, while a very limited number of leaders, teachers and support staff will be onsite Monday to Friday, 8:45AM - 3:20PM. Children must be collected by 3:20pm unless you have made arrangement with Kharisma Kids for After Care. There is no Before Care for this lockdown.

Remote Learning

All parents should have completed the Operoo eform published on Thursday 27 May to indicate if their child will be working at school and if you have access to a device. This information will be kept if required for use should it be required throughout 2021. As this is a short lockdown we will not be providing school devices for loan. If the lockdown is extended we will re-evaluate this option.

Children will need a device, laptop, computer, iPad or even a mobile phone to access remote learning. The staff have planned to deliver each child's program using Google Classrooms and Google Meet as we did in 2020.

This time the  Home group teacher will be working via Google Meets in real time with your child rather than posting videos. Specialist teachers will post videos of their sessions the night before and will be available online in a Google Meet to support children with their work. The teacher and Learning Support Officers will be online and available to support the learning of children during school hours 8:45 - 3:20 each school day. Teachers will not be available if they are in a teaching session with students.

The teaching sessions will be recorded and posted before each break 11am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm for those who cannot attend at the schedule time. These recordings of the teaching can be watched at a suitable time for your family.  The teachers will use Google Classrooms to post activities for children to work on as well.

Children will attend sessions with a teacher for reading, writing, numeracy, Inquiry/RE and Specialists.  This will follow the normal school timetable so that we keep the routine as normal as possible for our students.

The timetable for your child is posted on the Google Classroom Home Page for your reference. All notices will also appear on the Google Classroom Home page. We ask parents whenever possible that your child has a device to participate when this session is timetabled. All devices MUST be located in a common area of the home for participation in Google Meets.
